Queen Anne’s Battery (QAB) is in the centre of Plymouth, known as a City of the Sea and historic base to many famous seafaring voyages around the world. Offering outstanding facilities for yachtsmen and motor cruisers alike, it has 235 berths for boats up to 18 metres and a visitors' area with alongside pontoon berthing.

QAB has a chandlery, brokerage and yacht charter, a provisions shop selling essential items as well as a café, bar and restaurant. It’s also home to the Royal Western Yacht Club, and many international short-handed yacht races start and finish here, including the single-handed Transatlantic Race, the Round Britain Race and the finish of the prestigious Rolex Fastnet Race.

Boatyard facilities

QAB offers excellent boatyard facilities for boat repairs or maintenance work. There is a wide range of marine trades such as marine electronics, riggers, GRP repairs and engineers close at hand. There is a 40-ton Wise hoist, allowing boats to be launched seven days a week, and plenty of storage ashore including a secure area for small boats.

Launch and Recovery Services are available, enabling boats on trailers to be launched off the slipway throughout the whole week – great for trailer sailors.

Out and about

The marina provides an ideal departure point for those heading across to Brittany or further afield, and there is extensive cruising around Plymouth Sound.

Further west there's plenty to explore in the rivers Fal and Fowey along the rugged Cornish coast. Heading east towards Devon, visit Dartmouth, Torquay and the pretty fishing village of Brixham. The Channel Islands are a popular weekend destination for berth holders from QAB.

Always walk my Dog along the costal path to QAB. First we head down the pier and look out across the bay, then head back up and take the steps to the Battery. Unfortunately we have never been able to go inside and up to the top of the tower. Which is open but not often. It's good to read the info about its history. Not a spectacular place but very interesting.

One of my favorite places in Plymouth. Good shops, cafes, pub and plenty of boats in the yard to look at.

The management is next to useless. However the yard staff are friendly. Facilities are alright, pop over to the RWYC for a nice beer or drink

I love this place as it's not too far from my house. I always take a flask and just sit by the sea, deep in thought. Its great listening to the waves crashing on the walk way bit. Even better in a storm.

The heart of Plymouth's sailing fraternity and the home of the Royal Western Yacht Club. The marina is close to the Barbican without having to Lock in. Friendly staff, great cafe and Chandlers bar for a sundowner

A very well run marina, with really helpful staff. Not cheap, but no marina is. Lots of facilities, the usual shower block, including boat hoist and hard standing. Also many businesses to call on, a rigger, marine engineers, general boat maintenance, chandler, chart and book shop and much more. Fuel berth currently unavailable (it was condemned!), but will be restored in 2020 so I'm told. The only things I can fault is that the whole marina can get pretty rough in strong SW winds. It looks like they have been working on their breakwater and are continuing to do so, but the nature of the site means that it will always be a bit exposed. Also, the outer berths can be subject to wash from the fishing boats entering and leaving Sutton Harbour at all hours. And finally regarding the negatives, Sunday mornings are not very peaceful due to the Royal Western yacht club, who are based here, having their races, and also many day boats and dive boats being launched at the slip. The above sounds rather negative, it's not that bad, just trying to give the whole picture. The staff are lovely and the marina is well run.

Just stayed for 3 nights, they could not have done any more for us. Nice facilities, and clean. Just one word of warning, no fuel barge there at present, more of an issue if you need petrol as there is only one other place to get it. We have real problems getting enough petrol to get home!

We stayed here for 3 nights on our 30ft SV and the staff couldn't be more accommodating. The facilities are very clean and even has an on site shop which helped lots. Very happy with the place and would be happy to stay again.
